Why Worry – Version without doublings
…from the CD Berlin Cookbook
Ballad/5/4-Rock Groove/Bossa Nova
Duration ca. 12 min
The minor melody is stated first as a ballad then in a 5/4 rock groove. Solos are played over minor blues harmonies and are followed by a virtuoso sax soli. The melody comes back in a trumpet fortissimo, before everything turns fine in a soft bossa outro. Compared to the CD version all flute and clarinet parts have been rearranged for saxes.

Seiltanz [Dance on a Tightwire]
5/4 Fusion
Duration ca. 10 min
After the woodwind intro soprano sax and guitar play the head. The solo-part is open for several soloists. Flutes, clarinets and percussion dominate the sound of the minimalistic interlude, where time seems to float and which offers space for a tenor solo. The backings played by woodwinds, trombones, flugelhorns and percussion lead to the coda, which pays tribute to the head. Finally, the piece comes to an end in the outro, solely played by guitar and piano. An ambitioned piece for ambitioned bands.

Moonwalk (Vocal Arrangement)
Soft Rock/Afro Cuban 6/8

…from the Children’s Songs Series
This arrangement of the German folk song “Der Mond ist aufgegangen” [Moon has risen] features a singer (baritone) and is packed with dense, warm voicings. Solos are played on a 10-bar minor blues in afro-cuban style. The song fades out in a scat solo. A challenging title to listen to and dream.
